Open Iftar 2022

Open Iftar brings together people of all faiths and those without faith to explore and engage with the Islamic tradition of breaking fast during Ramadan. Together, we’ll share wholesome food alongside inspiring talks and engaging discussion.

This event forms part of Ramadan Tent Project’s national Open Iftar programme and aims to bring communities together to better understand one another and build bridges of understanding, solidarity and compassion.

This event also forms part of Neighbourly, a programme which builds relationships with forced migration communities in the North East. It is organised in partnership with Ramadan Tent Project

The ninth month of the Islamic year, during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset. It is within the month of Ramadan, the Holy Qur'an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad. Ramadan is the holiest month in the Islamic calendar.

Two people sat on the floor, laughing.

At sunset in the evening, a prayer called Maghrib is observed, followed by a meal to break the fast. This meal to break the fast is called Iftar.
