Bike to Baltic

Include Baltic in your cycle trip, pause to use our facilities and re-hydrate with a free refreshment in Front Room, before continuing with your journey. Gateshead cycle map can be downloaded here.

Baltic is accessible by bicycle via South Shore Road and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. We are located on National Cycle Route 14, which runs along Gateshead Quayside. There are bike racks on Baltic Square, near our main entrance, which are free to use.

You can also travel by Metro. Bikes can be taken onto trains between Callerton Parkway-Jesmond, Manors-Jesmond (via Whitley Bay), Gateshead Stadium-South Shields/South Hylton during the following times:

• Monday to Friday 10.00am-3.00pm 
• Monday to Friday 7.00pm until end of service
• All day at weekends

No bikes are permitted in the city centre sections between Gateshead Stadium-Jesmond and St James-Manors.

We also have lockers available to store items such as bags and coats during your visit. Our lockers cost £1 and are emptied at 5.55pm every day. Items cannot be left overnight. 

Travel by Metro - The envy of other British cities

Grab your Pop Pay As You Go card and travel to us by Metro, arriving at Newcastle Central Station or Gateshead Metro Interchange. How to find us from Gateshead Town Centre

You’re in Gateshead town centre, grabbed your pasty from Greggs, now what? 
We advise proceeding down West Street, turning right at the end of the road (onto Askew Road) and then left, crossing the road at the traffic lights to proceed under the train bridge. Now facing the iconic Tyne Bridge bare left down Bottle Bank (with the Tyne Bridge on your right, and Hilton on your left). At the bottom of the road, cross the road and take the first right along Hillgate, passing underneath the Tyne Bridge. During the summer month Kittiwake season, please beware the floor may be slippery. Follow the road along the River Tyne as it joins South Shore Road, passing Sage Gateshead on your right. You will then reach Baltic Square on your left where you can enter Baltic. This is also a step-free route.

Travel by Train – Arrive at ‘the Toon’

Newcastle Central Station is our closest train station. Take a moment to pause and appreciate this Grade 1 listed building originally opened in 1850, we hope to look as good after so many years. 

Travel by Bus – Uncover the local sights

Gateshead Bus Interchange or Newcastle Central Station are our closest bus stations. You can plan your visit to Baltic by bus here, and find out about Go North East’s Family Day Ticket, £1 tickets for under 21s, and full ticket range here.  

The Voltra 53 & Voltra 54 buses run every 12 minutes during the day. Buses start from both Gateshead Interchange and Newcastle Central Station. Find out more about the Voltra 53 service here. Find out more about the Voltra 54 service here.

Travel by Taxi

Accessible taxis are available locally through Deans Taxis. They can be contacted on 0191 444 4444, or ask at our Hello Desk where Baltic staff will be happy to book this for you. 

Travel by Car

Parking spaces are available in the Car Park, behind our building. Follow Signage for 'Gateshead Quays' and 'Other Car Parks' until specific signage for Baltic Car Park becomes visible. Spaces are pay on exit and you can pay by card or cash.

Our Car Park charges are as follows:
Up to 1 hour £2.00
Up to 2 hours £3.50
Up to 3 hours £5.00
Thereafter £1.50/hour

Blue badge holders park free. For ticket validation please contact security via the intercom on exit. There are 4 additional Blue Badge parking spaces directly adjacent to Baltic on South Shore Road. Blue Badges must be displayed at all times.

Motorcycles can park, free at all times, in the designated Motorcycle bay. 

Our coach drop-off point is next to Baltic on South Shore Road.

If you are travelling via the clean air zones be aware from 30 January charging applies for non-compliant vehicles. Check your vehicle in advance at gov.uk/clean-air-zones
