Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art are very excited to be offering up the opportunity for a person with a real passion for hospitality to join our team as Café Manager as part of the Trading operations of the Baltic charity.

Baltic is housed in a former flour mill on the historic banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead. A dramatic landmark building, the gallery hosts an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events. Our mission is to create greater understanding of the world through the vision of contemporary artists.

This role oversees the day-to-day running of Baltic Kitchen our beautiful newly refurbished Café. You must lead the café team and be well presented with excellent communication, operational and admin skills. You will drive the business and work front of house, liaising with Baltic visitors and customers on a day-to-day basis.

Reporting to the Hospitality Operations Manager you will ensure that together, the team are motivated and trained to meet the highest levels of guest care as you lead by example.

Key information

Reports to: Hospitality Operations Manager

Salary: £26,729.00 per annum

Working hours: 37 hours per week. Shifts will vary, they will include evenings and weekends.

Baltic is housed in a former flour mill on the historic banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead. A dramatic landmark building, the gallery hosts an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events.

From exhibition previews, weddings and fashion shows to corporate events and supporting our café, Baltic Kitchen. This role provides a dynamic and exciting experience for a dedicated Commis Chef.

This role assists the day to day running of our Events kitchen & Baltic Kitchen. We are looking for a creative, passionate, and enthusiastic Commis Chef to work with our Kitchen Manager to produce exciting food daily.

Reporting to the Kitchen Manager you will ensure that together, we are continuing to meet the highest levels of guest care.

As the Commis Chef, the successful candidate will need the following attributes:

  • Passion for preparing and cooking quality fresh food.
  • Experience in compliance and quality control.
  • Good understanding of food, health and safety regulations.
  • Experience working in a high-volume kitchen.
  • Hands-on experience with various kitchen equipment
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Excellent punctuality and communication skills.

 

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Day to day production of the event & café menus
  • Following company policies which affect your department.
  • To ensure that the department creates a professional impression to customers and team members.
  • To always follow procedures for food and beverage controls.
  • Maintaining departmental operating standards.
  • Other duties as specified by the Kitchen Manager to reflect the needs of the business.
  • Work together with the team to ensure that the business is the best it can be.
  • Be willing to take on jobs to balance the team workload.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene.
  • Dealing with deliveries and stock rotation.

 

This position is 20 hours per week. Shifts will vary, they will include evenings and weekends reflecting the café/events schedule.

Salary: £25,575 per annum (pro-rata to 20 hours per week)

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art are very excited to be offering up the opportunity for a person with a real passion for analytics to join our team as a Data Analyst. Baltic is housed in a former flour mill on the historic banks of the River Tyne in Gateshead. A dramatic landmark building, the gallery hosts an ever-changing calendar of exhibitions and events.

The Data analyst is a new role to the organisation, utilising internal data to demonstrate the impact of the work done at Baltic. As Baltic has expanded and upgraded its internal IT systems, we are now looking to create dashboards and build on our finance IT to design a better reporting suite.

The role will be supporting the Head of Finance in creating these dashboards for reporting infrastructure from Board through to Manager level information, setting up new Cost Centres and nominal analysis in Finance and assuming a finance administrative support function, supporting the team when needed.

The data analyst will support by analysing, interpreting and presenting the data to others to support improvements internally within the organisation and demonstrate the impact, Economic and Social Value the organisation has to external stakeholders.


General Specification

The candidate will have good data processing and analyst experience having sound knowledge of Dashboard reporting. They will be experienced in Power BI and be able to work autonomously in creating data dashboards following direction from the Head of Finance and Leadership team.

The candidate will embrace the culture of the organisation and be willing to pick up ad hoc tasks and challenges as required. They will be comfortable in administrative functions such as inbox checks, preparing monthly management report bundles and impact reporting.

The role reports into the Head of Finance who will lead on strategic decisions associated with content for the dashboards and provide support for the role.
