About Baltic
Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is a major international gallery situated on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, England. Having welcomed over 9 million visitors since opening in July 2002, Baltic presents a distinctive and ambitious programme and is a world leader in the presentation and commissioning of temporary contemporary visual art exhibitions. Housed in a landmark ex-industrial building, Baltic houses 2,600 square metres of art space, making it one of Europe’s largest dedicated contemporary art institutions. Baltic has presented the work of over 460 artists of 60 nationalities in 220 exhibitions to date. Baltic is supported by Arts Council England, Gateshead Council and Northumbria University.

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art are looking to recruit a dynamic and self-motivated Head of Development & Enterprise, sitting at the heart of our Development and Enterprise department you will be in the engine room of the charities income generation; you will have a demonstrable record of planning and generating income from a variety of sources including corporate partnerships and individuals and have an affiliation with the aims and objectives of Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art and understand its cultural and social value.

The Head of Development & Enterprise, will play a critical role in the delivery of Baltic’s charitable purpose and partnerships, as well as working with the Directors, consultants and board of trustees on major fundraising initiatives. You will be comfortable communicating with a variety of stakeholders, understanding their aims and translating them into actionable results on behalf of the organisation. You will be excited to lead fundraising initiatives of seven figures.

Reporting to the Director of Public Value, together, you will strategise, plan and deliver Baltic’s income generation, from inception to project closure. You will work closely and effectively with The Director and Chair of the board as well as key internal stakeholders across Baltic departments to manage the development of deliverable goals, maintain ethical standards and support organisational reputation. You will be adept at managing multiple priorities and have demonstrable track record of raising significant sums from a variety of sources which include corporates and philanthropy. You will line manage the Development & Enterprise Manager who has a focus on Trusts and Foundations.

The Head of Development & Enterprise will effectively support the Directors and lead the creative and communications teams in the planning, resourcing and delivery of an integrated fundraising strategy that aligns with Baltic’s objectives; ensuring that targets are met, in accordance with the Baltic’s mission, vision, values and organisational plan.

Reports to: Director of Enterprise & Public Value
Direct reports: Head of Trading, Development Manager
Salary: £50,802, pay award pending and negotiable dependent on experience
Working hours: 37 hours per week; we offer a flexitime scheme

Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art are very excited to be offering up the opportunity for a person with a real passion for hospitality to join our team as Events Assistant Manager. This role will assist in managing private functions ranging from parties, conferences to weddings and you will have responsibility for room set up as well as ensuring that your team are fully briefed and organised prior to a function.

You must be well presented with excellent communication and leadership skills, as the role will be working front of house and liaising with clients on a day-to-day basis.

Reporting to the Front of House General Manager you will ensure that together, the team are motivated and trained to meet the highest levels of guest care as you lead by example.

As the events assistant manager, the successful candidate will need the following attributes:

  • You will be able to complete a wide range of activities requiring clear communication, excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • You can work well under pressure, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of an event.
  • Be customer focused and consistently delivering excellent customer service with an informed, friendly and effective approach.
  • To constantly exceed guest expectations, delivering the highest standards of customer service, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be friendly, smiley, sociable and welcoming to our customers, to create a great atmosphere.
  • Be confident and self-motivated, demonstrate a passionate commitment to the business.
  • You will welcome and embrace change, with a positive attitude and a desire for personal growth.

 

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Interpret the event plans accurately and ensure the customer’s stated expectations are met.
  • Overseeing event delivery, ensuring all details are addressed and delivered to the guest’s specification.
  • Ensure that rooms not in use are in an appropriate state for show-rounds of potential customers, either by prior or chance appointments.
  • Be present to meet and greet customers checking requirements and passing on relevant information (e.g. fire evacuation procedure, message system, etc.).
  • Promote additional sales/selling up whenever possible.
  • Be aware of company policies which affect your department.
  • To ensure that the department creates a professional impression to customers and team members.
  • To always follow procedures for food and beverage controls.
  • To assist with maintaining and improving departmental operating standards.
  • To assist with and suggest new promotional opportunities to enable departmental sales to meet and exceed budget.
  • Must lead by example and role model the expected behaviour’s while projecting a sense of urgency in responding to guests needs.
  • Other duties as specified by the events manager to reflect the needs of the business.
  • Work together with the team to ensure that the business is the best it can be.
  • Be willing to take on jobs to balance the team workload.
  • Supervise, train and develop others. Support, encourage and motivate others.

 

Key information 

Reports to: Front of House General Manager
Salary: £26,342.25 per annum
Working hours: 37 hours per week. Shifts will vary, they will include evenings and weekends.

Annual leave: 25 days plus bank holidays pro-rata

About the Role
Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is seeking a passionate and experienced Young People’s Producer to join our Learning Team who will help shape our vision for youth led programming over the next 12 months. This role comes at an exciting time for Baltic, as we develop new strategies to address inequity for young people within education and in the creative sector unlocking creativity as a skill in all areas of life. The role is initially recruited as fixed term, with ambition to extend. 

You will lead on delivering our current youth programmes: Baltic Young Producers, a collective of young people who lead and create and deliver exhibitions, workshops and events at Baltic, and ArtMix, weekly artist-led workshops to inspire the next generation of creatives in the North East. You will also initiate new programming strands for young people aged 13-19, build effective relationships with a range of partners to make a transformational impact on the lives of young people through engaging with contemporary art and creative culture. 

Key Information
Reports to: Learning Team Lead 
Pay: £27,436.00 per annum
Working hours: 30 hours per week. We offer a flexi-time scheme.
