The Vasseur BALTIC Artists’ Award recognises artists deserving of an international platform and offers a step-change moment in their career. For the 2022 iteration, Otobong Nkanga has nominated Ima-Abasi Okon, Mika Rottenberg has nominated Laleh Khorramian and Hito Steyerl has nominated Fernando García-Dory.
Exploring the principles of non-hierarchical play environments, equal play is a new commission by artist and educator Albert Potrony. The project explores themes of non-gendered and non-prescriptive play, and will take inspiration from Dutch architect, Aldo van Eyck, to specifically consider the role of men and childcare in relation to feminism.
A day is as long as a year
Mounira Al Solh’s paintings, works on paper, embroideries and films explore migration, memory, trauma and loss. Drawing from the artist’s personal conversations and encounters with those who have been affected by conflict in Syria, Lebanon and the Middle East region, Al Solh’s works tell stories of displacement and uncertainty.

Carolina Caycedo makes work that addresses the commons, environmental justice, just energy transition and cultural and environmental biodiversity.
BALTIC and Shape launch Emergent – a new hybrid residency and support programme for early-career disabled artists with a £5k bursary. Applications are open for disabled artists/creative practitioners in the first five years of their career to take part in a three-month residency programme that combines digital and physical elements of delivery, supported by both organisations.

As part of our 20th Birthday Weekend celebrations, we're hosting our first ever Art Car Boot Fair. Shop affordable art from over 50 artists including painters, ceramicists, printmakers, zine-makers and sculptors.
Family Days at BALTIC happen several times a year during and everyone is welcome. On these days we especially invite local families from across Tyne and Wear to play, make and create in a free day of creative activities by regional and national artists.
