Dive into an ocean of creativity this February half term at Baltic. From building underwater worlds and dancing at our Cereal Disco to learning about marine life with a real biologist and creating electricity from potatoes. Whether you're exploring our calming Sensory Room or getting hands-on with the help of exhibiting artists, make a splash for the school holidays.

Underwater Worlds
with Zoe Allen & Lottie Smith
10:30-15:30 | Level 1
Help us build a magical underwater world on Level 1 with artists Zoe Allen and Lottie Smith. We’ll use recycled materials to sculpt creatures of the deep and mysterious habitats for them to live in. Expect an immersive environment with ocean-themed music and atmospheric lighting, perfect for all the family.

Little explorers under 5 can explore the world around them through imaginative, creative, self-led play. Includes a special tour led by Baltic Crew of our ocean-inspired exhibition For All At Last Return.

Booking essential
Get hands-on in this educational marine workshop for all ages led by qualified marine biologist, Nicola Everitt, from Rockpool School. Come and learn about our fabulous local rockpools and what lives within, and get crafty with natural objects.
Booking information: This event is free with the option to donate, booking is essential to secure your place. There are four timeslots available, each timeslot is 30 minutes long. Please book one place per person attending.

Imagine a Reef
with Michele Allen (exhibiting artist in For All At Last Return)

Explore the underwater world of oyster reefs with artist Michele Allen. Did you know UK coasts once had reefs 8m deep—as tall as a house? Discover Michele's habitat restoration work on the North East coast, then create a colourful group artwork drawing on the reefs and the 50+ different sea creatures that are making their homes there. Come discover what's living beneath the waves and help us imagine the reef.

Discover how mysterious nodules from the ocean floor produce energy. Artist Rob Smith will share fascinating insights into deep sea environments, before bringing everyone together to build potato batteries - creating real electricity just like those remarkable underwater nodules.
