BALTIC's Learning Lounge is open and ready to welcome you back safely. We've put changes in place so that you can enjoy a safe visit with your family, household or bubble in a relaxed and creative environment.
Before visiting we are asking all visitors to book a free group ticket for a maximum of 6 people, for an allocated timeslot at 10.45-12.15 or 13.15-14.45. This will help us manage the number of people visiting and ensure that you and your family and friends can experience the Learning Lounge safely.
BALTIC's Learning Lounge is a fun and informal learning space where visitors can chat, rest, learn and play.
If you've visited us before, you'll notice our Learning Lounge looks a little different. Upon booking, you'll be allocated your own Zone in the Learning Lounge. Each Zone will have soft seating, a table and chairs, wipe-able matting and a screen showing subtitled versions of BALTIC exhibition tours and our building-history films. You'll also receive a special box of books, games and toys to use whilst you're with us and a set of creative activities to explore in the space or take home with you.
Each Zone can be booked for a maximum of 6 people; yourself and those in your household or bubble. There will be two other household bubbles sharing your timeslot, in their own socially-distanced Zones.
BALTIC's Learning Lounge will also have a community computer bank and communal creative table for you to use, with socially distanced seating.
If you wish to visit the galleries before or after your Learning Lounge timeslot, you will need to book a free ticket here.
Our Learning Lounge toilets including toddler toilets and accessible toilets with WispaLite hoists 200kg, closomat wash and dry systems and shower will also be open.
We are asking all visitors to wear a face covering when visiting BALTIC. Face coverings are mandatory for all visitors except those with health and breathing issues, and children under the age of 11, in line with government guidelines.
I’m a bit nervous; I’ve been to your Learning Lounge before and know there are usually lots of people, surfaces and toys. What’s changed to make it safer for my visit?
To make BALTIC's Learning Lounge safe, we’ve removed a lot of furniture, toys and books, increased our cleaning regimes, limited our numbers and used a booking system. There’ll only ever be up to 12 people, from two bubbles, that you don’t know.
Whilst it’s not our previous drop-in, free-play space we think you will enjoy your Learning Lounge session and you will receive a more personalised experience. When you arrive you’ll be allocated your own household Zone. This has everything you need and will be exclusively yours, clean and ready for you to chat, play, rest, watch and read. You’ll receive a box with games, blocks, books and creative activities too. These boxes will have been quarantined for 72 hours previously, to ensure they’re Covid-safe.
When you’re ready to leave you’ll box your play-things back up and put them into our quarantine cages; they’ll hibernate for 72 hours. Your Zone will be cleaned down and ready for the next booking slot.
I notice that I can book up to 6 people in my household or bubble. Do children count as part of that 6?
Absolutely. Please book a group ticket for up to 6 people, and let us know the number of individuals that’ll be in your zone; including adults, children and babes in arms. Please note; if more than 6 people attend this booking you will be turned away. Thank you for your cooperation.
It says you’ve got a community computer bank. I just want to use a computer, so do I still need to book?
Yes please. You still need to book and will still be allocated a zone, even if you just want to use the computer. This helps us manage numbers and ensure we have details for NHS Test and Trace. Please note; there are currently no printing facilities in the Learning Lounge.
What about masks? I’m staying in my Zone, do I still need to wear a mask?
Definitely. We are asking all visitors to wear a face covering when visiting BALTIC. Face coverings are mandatory for all visitors except those with health and breathing issues, and children under the age of 11, in line with government guidelines.
If you accidentally arrive without one, we have disposable masks to give you. When worn correctly, masks go over your mouth AND nose. Whilst masks are mandatory in public buildings like BALTIC, not everyone can wear one. There are a number of reasons why people are unable to wear masks and they aren’t all visible. We recognise and support this and ask you to do the same.
I want to visit the rest of BALTIC too. Is that included in this booking or not?
No. We’d love you to visit the rest of BALTIC and ask that you book a separate ticket to see the galleries here. This helps us control the total number of visitors in our building at any one time and ensure that everyone’s visits are as safe and comfortable as possible.
If your gallery booking time runs consecutively to your Learning Lounge booking you don’t need to be re-checked in and can proceed with your visit from Level 2. Please be aware a member of our Crew team might query your onward booking with you; please know that they’re there to help.
You might like to book your Learning Lounge and gallery visit times with a gap so you can take advantage of our café (open Thursday-Sunday) or bring your own packed lunch and relax our picnic area BALTIC Front Room; make a day of it.
I want to visit the Sensory Room too, can I?
No, not with this booking. If you’d like to use the Sensory Room then we ask that you book a separate timeslot here. This helps us control the total number of visitors at any one time and ensure that everyone’s visits are as safe and comfortable as possible.
Please be aware that you cannot book to attend the Sensory Room and Learning Lounge at the same time. We want to reduce unnecessary movement as much as possible and bubbles moving frequently between the Sensory Space and their Learning Lounge Zone makes this more challenging. Your cooperation is hugely appreciated.
