Secondary Schools Creative Careers Day | Building a Green Future

Fri 20 November | Free
14:00-16:00

We’re inviting secondary schools to Baltic for a free environmentally-focused, creative careers day designed by young people for young people, to learn about green jobs and future green career choices.

Students will be invited to get stuck in with creative workshops, interactive demonstrations, climate-related film screenings, talks and artistic storytelling workshops, as well as opportunities to learn from green companies about exciting new technology and climate conscious engineering.

Focusing on creativity, imagination and climate hope, this event is ideal for secondary school students who have an interest in the natural world around them and are looking into what green-focused opportunities and future careers are available to them.

Please register your interest by completing this form no later than Fri 6 November.

What to expect

Keynote Speech and Composting Workshops
Environmental storyteller and content creator, Kerry Maule, will deliver a keynote speech to get budding environmentalists and eco-curious minds excited about creative futures before hosting interactive composting workshops with students throughout the day.

Interactive Demonstrations
Students will be able to engage with artists, storytellers and industry professionals working across arts, culture and environmental agencies, to learn how their curiosity and creativity can play a role in their local area, and what opportunities are available for young people with an interest in renewable energy, nature and sustainability.

Beekeeping Workshop
North East Dads & Lads will be joined by Newcastle University to teach your students everything they need to know about beekeeping and the hierarchy of a beehive. There will be a chance to suit up as a beekeeper and see firsthand the tools used to harvest honey.

Rockpool School
Dip into an immersive marine biology lab run by Dr. Nicola, where students will be able to gently handle crustaceans and other creatures that inhabit the local North East coastline, to learn about the importance of preserving these habitats and the role your students can play to help.
