BALTIC Family Days

19 & 20 Feb 10.00-18.00

Wed 19 & Thu 20 Feb, 10.00-18.00

FREE Drop-in

You’re invited to BALTIC Family Days, two free days of creativity and play for you and your family! Come together at BALTIC with artist Richard Bliss to create circles of love and fill the space with images, colours, textures, ideas and words.

Discover BALTIC’s views, exhibitions and take part in activities that explore how we care for one another, ourselves and what we might create when we work together. BALTIC Family Days will take place throughout the building and include pop-up activities as well as performances by local community groups. For families with children of all ages.

BALTIC Family Days includes the following free activities:

Growing Me, Growing You
You and your family are invited to join BALTIC artists Sophie Lisa Beresford and Soodabe Nazarhaghighi to explore how we can take care of ourselves and the natural world. Decorate a pot, plant a seed and take it home to nurture and watch it grow.

Circles of Love

Join artist Richard Bliss to think about who you care for, and who cares for you. Experiment with materials. Try out drawing, painting and sculpture using found objects to create your own circles of love and support.

Creative Kindness
Artist Megan Randall and pupils from Carr Hill Community Primary School invite you to Creative Kindness, taking place throughout BALTIC Family Days. Try out some of the materials and techniques they’ve been experimenting with at International Art Club, including making bunting using natural dyes and flower origami with seed paper.

Relaxation Room
Head to the Relaxation Room on Level 1, open across BALTIC Family Days, a space of care for you and your baby. Sit back and enjoy complimentary herbal tea and a hand massage, provided by volunteers at The Comfrey Project.

Wonder & Wander
10.30 on both days
Join a member of BALTIC's Learning team for a Wonder and Wander tour of one of our current exhibitions where you and your toddler can explore themes of care and connection through sensory materials, movement and sound.

There will be pop-up musical performances by the Rock Choir North East at 11.00 and 12.00 taking place in the River Terrace. Singing along is optional, but highly recommended.

Guided by BALTIC staff, you will explore the galleries, take part in an activity and share your discoveries with friends and family. After Family Days, we’ll post out a certificate to celebrate your achievement.
