Nowruz (Persian New Year)
20 March 2025 | 14:30 - 17:00 | Free drop-in
Join us in Baltic's Level 5 Viewing Platform for Nowruz (also known as Persian New Year) to celebrate the beginning of Spring and new life.
Over the years, we’ve enjoyed learning about the different cultural traditions and celebrations enjoyed by our neighbours, including Nowruz – a festival which marks the beginning of spring. Working with our community collaborators Afrooz Bayat, Zarifeh Peygar and Hesam Moshfegh, we're hosting Nowruz 2025 in Baltic's Level 5 Viewing Platform, against a backdrop of the river, bridges and city.
We invite you to welcome the longer days and explore the connection between humans and nature, with a variety of Nowruz edible dishes and delicacies, live music by Aslan Mehraban, dancing and community togetherness. This event is open to everyone, including people who observe Nowruz, and those that might be joining-in for the first time, with opportunities to learn about traditions such as haft-sin: the custom of setting a table with seven items beginning with the letter ‘s’. This can include sabzeh (sprouted lentil or wheat), which symbolises rebirth; seer (garlic) for good health; serekh (vinegar) for patience; seeb (apple) for beauty.
We look forward to welcoming you to be part of the Nowruz community, and celebrate this joyous occasion.
