International Zine Month
Inspired by our Birds, Bees, Bikes & Trees project, we are celebrating this year’s International Zine Month with a zine exhibition in Baltic Library and a series of inspiring artist-led, zine workshops.

Take note! Self-publishing and climate hope
A zine takeover in Baltic Library for International Zine Month.
‘Take note! Self-publishing and climate hope’ explores how zines are used to raise awareness of the climate crisis and to share information on ways to care for our environment and to imagine a better future for the planet (and/or how to survive the apocalypse!).
Explore our growing zine library of around 600 zines made by artists and activists, reflecting the interests of Baltic’s programme. This year in particular, we are showcasing zines which connect with our project Birds, Bees, Bikes & Trees exploring our relationships with nature in an urban environment.
All of the zines can be read within our Library throughout the month of July and if you feel inspired to get making, come and join one of our artist-led zine-making workshops on Saturdays where you can make your own zines or collaborate on ones for Baltic’s Zine Library.

Grounding my body: Climate Change with Sofia Barton
Saturday 26 July | 10:30-12:30
Free, booking essential
Join artist Sofia Barton to explore the physical sensations of climate change. Reflect on your mind-body connection through the art of zine-making. A space to map your personal responses to climate anxiety, using visual art, storytelling, and sensory exploration. We'll delve into how environmental concerns manifest in our bodies, and discover tangible ways to foster resilience. Using simple materials and guided prompts, we’ll craft a unique zine that acts as a personal guide, a tool for grounding, and a form of self-expression. Whether you're navigating sensory sensitivities, seeking emotional clarity, or simply drawn to creative exploration, this session invites you to connect with your inner world and the wider environment.
