Ali Cherri’s practice is inspired both by archaeological artefacts and the natural world. How I Am Monumentshowcases the artist’s interests in process and materiality, looking at history and the ancient world through a material lens.

Laura Lancaster makes paintings from found imagery, collected from anonymous analogue photographs and film. She transposes the lost and discarded memories of strangers into ambiguous territory between abstraction and figuration. Rachel Lancaster’s practice is focused on painting and its interactions with the languages of cinema, music and photography. She is drawn to seemingly insignificant passing shots, extreme close ups of inanimate objects, common place domestic interiors; the split-second moments that are “in-between” the action.

Ali Cherri: How I Am Monument has been developed in partnership with Vienna Secession, where it is presented until 23 February 2025. A second, expanded chapter will be exhibited in Baltic’s Level 4 gallery from 12 April – 12 October 2025. In the framework of this collaboration, the partners have co-commissioned new works by the artist.
