Helen Jarvis, Emeritus Professor of Social Geography, Newcastle University, will ask how and why we should deliver ‘people-powered’ homes for all. She will draw attention to feminist ideas on collective, collaborative and alternative living arrangements and call for this to inspire campaigns of action on housing and social justice today.
Professor Helen Jarvis is a scholar-activist with enduring interests in the lived realities of communal living and grassroots interventions that align social with environmental justice. Helen is Emerita Professor of Social Geography Engagement after 26 years employed at Newcastle University. Helen continues to champion the transformative potential of place-based community organising as a theory and practice of progressive social change and as a critical approach to the social purpose of community engagement in Higher Education Institutions.
