BALTIC is pleased to announce that Ad Minoliti’s exhibition Biosfera Peluche / Biosphere Plush will feature a Library of Queer and Feminist zines. We invite zine makers from all over the world to send us information about your zines for the possibility of inclusion.
Deadline for submissions: 1 September 2021
This is an opportunity to have your Queer and Feminist zines displayed as part of the zine library included in Ad Minoliti’s exhibition Biosfera Peluche / Biosphere Plush at BALTIC from 24 July 2021 - 8 May 2022. Visitors will be able to access the library in the gallery space.
We would like to invite zine makers whose work is produced through a Queer and/or Feminist lens to send us information about your zines. Selected zines will then be purchased by BALTIC (including postage costs).
What is a ‘zine’?
According to Saffa Khan’s Make a Zine in 5 Minutes, held in BALTIC's collection, a zine is an ‘independent/self-published/non-commercial’ creation, often taking the form of a handmade booklet printed in small circulation. It is not a magazine, and it is pronounced “zeen”.
Zines can cover all manner of subject matter and have historically been a platform for marginalised people to express their ideas, document experiences, share DIY methods of creating, and build communities.
