Axel

Axel is an emerging artist living the North East. Their photography looks at their everyday surroundings and specific arrangements of found objects, and takes an experimental approach working with different techniques and processes. This series of photographs were made during walks around area where they live, and after spending time in our sensory room on Level 2. The images draw attention to places and objects that often seem unremarkable, inviting us to think about them in new ways. Axel has experimented with different camera exposures and perspectives to produce layered, playful images.

Axel’s photographs can be found on Level 2.

Blossom

Blossom is an emerging artist based in the North East. Their practice encompasses painting, drawing and collage. Their work is inspired by surrealism, history, cult films and horror fiction, in particular the works of American writers Stephen King and Joe Hill, often referencing specific historical events. The image Blossom has produced for the our lightbox shows a foreboding landscape at the time of the bubonic plague in the mid-fourteenth century, with surreal floating eyes and a plague doctor on his way to attend to the sick. The work reflects on storytelling and conspiracy theories, imagining a historical rural landscape in the North East in a contemporary urban setting.

Blossom’s lightbox design can be found on our Ground Floor.
