Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is a major international gallery situated on the south bank of the River Tyne in Gateshead, England. Having welcomed over 10 million visitors since opening in July 2002, Baltic presents a distinctive and ambitious world-class visual art programme. Housed in a landmark ex-industrial building, Baltic houses 2,600 square metres of art space, making it one of Europe’s largest galleries.

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join the team at Baltic as a Front of House Assistant. We're looking for a friendly, enthusiastic, and reliable individual who enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering excellent customer service.
Reports to: Cafe Manager
Salary: £13.45 per hour
Working hours: 15 hours per week with availability for evenings and weekends
Place of Work: Baltic, South Shore Road, Gateshead
Annual leave: 25 days plus Bank Holidays pro rata

Community Curator

Baltic has two positions of Community Curator hosted at Baltic, organised as part of a partnership with the Migration Museum.
The Migration Museum is partnering with five museums and galleries across the UK to launch a new programme bringing diverse voices, lived experiences, and perspectives into the creation of a series of exhibitions exploring migration themes in 2027 – and the Migration Museum’s new permanent home in 2028.
The Migration Museum will work with Baltic, the Food Museum, Glasgow Life Museums, Hastings Museum & Art Gallery, and the Museum of Free Derry to recruit 10 Community Curators: passionate people who are eager to work with local communities and showcase local talent. Our Community Curators will co-create displays/deliver engagements exploring migration stories in their local areas. These displays/engagements will be presented at partner venues from Spring 2027.

Our Living Wage commitment means everyone working at Baltic, in roles with hourly pay, receive a minimum hourly wage of £13.45 in the UK, higher than the government minimum for over 21s, which currently stands at £12.71 per hour.
Baltic is based in the North East, the region with the highest proportion of below real Living Wage jobs in the UK (18.8%), with over 191,000 jobs paying less than the real Living Wage. Despite this, Baltic has committed to pay the real Living Wage and provide a decent standard of living for all their workers. The Living Wage Foundation’s real Living Wage remains the only UK wage rate independently calculated based on the cost of living, rising annually based on living costs.
