Open Call: BALTIC Open Submission 2020

BALTIC is pleased to announce BALTIC Open Submission 2020, an open-call exhibition to take place in November 2020 at our Newcastle gallery space, BALTIC 39 on High Bridge.

Deadline for submissions: 17 August 2020, 23.59

This is an opportunity to have your work presented in a gallery, among many other artists, makers and hobbyists based in the North East of England.

Up to 150 works will be selected to be included in the exhibition by a panel of four. The panellists are: Katie Hickman, Curator (Performance and Public Programme) at BALTIC and three artists based in the North East: Richard Bliss, Lady Kitt and Padma Rao.

Key Dates

  • 26 June: Submission process open
  • 17 August: Last day for postal entries to be received
  • 17 August: Last day to submit your work online
  • 20 September: All successful submissions contacted
  • 14–27 October: Receiving the works selected for the exhibition at BALTIC 39. This will be explained in further detail to each participant closer to the time.
  • November 2020 – January 2021: Exhibition open to the public

Making your submission

You can submit a piece of work to be considered by the panel and you don’t need to have a degree, an art qualification, a studio or even have shown your work in public before. All entries will be reviewed equally by the panel.

By post: You can make an entry by post. Please DO NOT send original artwork, we are unable to include original artwork in our selection process. Only images of work will be accepted. Take a photo of your artwork and include a print-out or a photograph of it. Postal entries must be received by us by 17 August 2020.

Maximum 2 sheets of A4 paper. Please include your contact details including:

Your name, Postal address, E-mail and/or phone number (if available) and a short statement about your work (maximum 150 words).
