Open Call:
Foundation Club

Deadline: Friday 26 August 2022

Baltic is pleased to announce the launch of our Foundation Club, supporting the creative careers of young people from the North East of England.

About Foundation Club

Foundation Club has been designed to support young people from the North East aged 16-24 to access, engage with, learn from and be mentored by creative and cultural professionals in order to progress their artistic talent and realise their creative potential.

Foundation Club will focus on recruiting talented young people who show outstanding potential and who might feel unable to access, or ‘locked out of’ guidance and networking experiences and opportunities.

In 2022, Foundation Club will give three young people the time and space to research new ideas, make new work, develop new networks, create meaningful exchanges and interact with and find their place within the North East artistic community.

How it works

Foundation Club has four parts:

  • Residency – the three young artists will have access to a shared studio space at Baltic for one month to enable them to develop their artistic/creative practice.
  • Mentoring – each artist will receive tailored mentoring support from Baltic staff and professional artists.
  • Art Commission – during their month-long residency, the three young artists will each be invited to develop a proposal for a new art commission at Baltic.
  • Collective – graduates of the Foundation Club programme will become members of Foundation Club Collective, a group of young artists who we hope will continue to work together and have ongoing professional and artistic support from Baltic.
  • Fees – each young artist will be awarded a £1,000 fee and a £500 bursary for travel, subsistence and materials during the month-long residency. A further £500 artist's fee will be available for the commission.

Who can apply?

Applicants should:
