Launched in May 2019 and delivered in partnership with Birtley Hub Resource Centre, Art Lab is an ongoing holiday programme offering daily artist-led activities, weekly trips and lunch throughout the school holidays. The offer is developed with and for families living in Birtley and particularly families who usually access free school meals during term time.
As part of Ramadan 2019, BALTIC partnered with Ramadan Tent Project to host an Open Iftar, a community event which aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and experience of Ramadan and fasting for all.
ESOL at BALTIC offers practical advice, support and creative input to English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes in the North East who wish to visit BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.

In December 2020, BALTIC worked together with local food suppliers and artist Isabella Carreras to create and distribute fun, tasty and creative packages to families and individuals across Birtley, Gateshead.
This Easter holidays BALTIC is continuing to connect with local communities through Art Lab - an ongoing programme offering artist-led activities and meals throughout the school holidays.
Over the last few months BALTIC's community team been working with six Comfrey Project Volunteers as Co-Producers on a digital ‘how-to’ programme.
Over the Autumn of 2021, BALTIC worked with the West End Refugee Service and artists from forced migration communities to create a series of colourful panels for their community garden. Working with printmaker Theresa Easton, the artists planned, designed, painted and installed the panels – a collaborative effort to bring vibrancy and a message of hope, welcome and togetherness to the garden.
Delivered in partnership with the West End Refugee Service, SkillsMatch at BALTIC offers a variety of volunteering opportunities especially for people seeking sanctuary in the North East.
Language Café at BALTIC happens the first Saturday of each month in BALTIC Front Room. This is a free, fun, friendly and informal opportunity to meet new people and practice English speaking and listening.
