BALTIC offers placements and work experience for students at schools, colleges and universities. Our placements are usually within the Learning & Civic Engagement Team and offer an opportunity to experience a wide range of learning events and activities and take part in the planning, preparation and evaluation that goes into these.
About Learning & Civic Engagement at BALTIC
BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art exhibits a changing programme of outstanding, inspiring contemporary art. The building is open 362 days a year and admission is free. Up to 500,000 people visit annually. In addition to commissioning and producing exhibitions and performances, BALTIC delivers an extensive programme of learning and civic engagement, prioritising working with the most disadvantaged. Last year’s activities engaged with 273,916 individuals.
BALTIC’s mission is to create greater understanding of the world through contemporary art that has power, relevance and meaning for individuals and communities. We also aim to practice this mission in reverse; for individuals and communities to have power, relevance and meaning at the heart of BALTIC.
A significant part of all Learning and Civic Engagement (L&CE) programming is the importance of building relationships, earning trust, and developing shared values that are shaped around the idea of reciprocity. With an ethos of mutual learning, exchange, playfulness, hospitality and care, L&CE aims to find points of connection with people, working together with professional artists on creative projects that have a civic purpose and champion people as agents of change.
School Work Experience (2019/20 Academic Year)
