Late Shows at BALTIC 2019

Sat 18 May 19.00

Start your night at BALTIC for this year’s Late Shows, which promises to be bigger than ever. Explore a maze, build a tower and climb a structure in BALTIC’s exhibition THE CITY IS WHERE WE’RE GOING NEXT, by artists Simon & Tom Bloor. Get creative in a book-making workshop, join an experiential tour and witness special Kittiwake talks.

You can experience stunning night-time views of NewcastleGateshead’s Quayside and enjoy food, drink and great hospitality in BALTIC Kitchen until late. Plus, there’ll be a spectacular display of uplifting, feel-good pop, rock and contemporary chart songs performed by the Newcastle & Ponteland Rock Choir in Baltic Square.

19.00-23.00: BALTIC Summer Season
Explore the latest BALTIC exhibitions; Simon & Tom Bloor: THE CITY IS WHERE WE'RE GOING NEXT, BALTIC Artists' Award 2019 and Digital Citizen - The Precarious Subject

19.00-23.00: Book-making Workshop
Drop-into an informal drop-in zine making workshop, led by artist Sharon Wilson. Inspired by the playful exhibition THE CITY IS WHERE WE'RE GOING NEXT, you'll be using BALTIC Library's collection of architecture and urban photography books to create your own sites for play in real or imaginary urban landscapes.

19.00-23.00: Flock Together
Our Creating Change group at Cardinal Hume School have been working with Bethan Maddocks to explore divisive politics, voting and how we can open up debate around questions big and small. Having created paper carrier pigeons pupils would like to invite visitors to explore the question each bird proposes and to place their vote ‘for, against, or unsure’ by creating their own paper bird. Visitors’ artwork will be added to a larger installation to be displayed as part of an event at BALTIC in July.

19.00 & 20.00: Rock Choir
Watch a spectacular display of uplifting, feel-good pop, rock and contemporary chart songs performed by the Newcastle & Ponteland Rock Choir. The local singers will be presenting an explosion of entertainment, guaranteed to make you dance! Rock Choir's ethos of fun, friendship and community spirit is a huge part of its attraction and is passed on to its audience through every performance.

19.00 & 20.00: Experiential Tour
Join a member of BALTIC Crew for a brand new tour experience. Head to Level 4 at 19.00 & 20.00 where you’ll be guided through Simon & Tom Bloor’s exhibition THE CITY IS WHERE WE’RE GOING NEXT using objects, sounds and dialogue.

19.30 & 20.30: Kittiwalk Talk
Join seabird expert Dan Turner (Tyne Kittiwake Partnership) and learn about BALTIC’s feathery friend, the Kittiwake. Taking place in BALTIC’s Learning space Quay (Level 2), Dan will chat about the kittiwake colony that nest on BALTIC’s north face from March through to August. There’ll be an opportunity to see the birds before or after the talk from BALTIC’s external viewing platform (Level 4), plus time for questions.

On the same evening, artists Ravioli Me Away present The View From Behind The Futuristic Rose Trellis, a live work featuring sixteen new multi-genre musical compositions across three acts. Find out more and book tickets: baltic.art/tickets
